Rather than being designed to add significant volume or change the shape of the face, polynucleotides are used to support skin quality and the skin’s natural regenerative processes.
What are polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments used within regenerative medicine. When introduced into the skin, they are thought to support processes involved in tissue repair and regeneration, including activity of fibroblasts, which play an important role in maintaining the skin’s structure.
Research into polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine is promising. Studies have reported improvements in areas including skin texture, elasticity and the appearance of fine lines. However, research is still developing, and there is not yet one universally agreed treatment protocol.
This is why we believe polynucleotide treatments should be recommended following an individual assessment rather than as a standard treatment for everyone.
What can polynucleotides help with?
Polynucleotides may be considered when the focus is on improving skin quality, resilience and appearance, rather than adding facial volume.
Depending on the individual, they may be suitable for concerns including:
- Fine lines
- Reduced elasticity
- Dehydrated skin
- Thin or crepey-looking skin
- Uneven skin texture
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Certain types of scarring
- Delicate skin around the eyes
They can also form part of a carefully considered treatment plan for sensitive or redness-prone skin, depending on individual suitability.
Plinest, Plinest Eye and Newest
At Blackabey’s, based in Collingham, we use three products from the Mastelli polynucleotide range.
Plinest® can be used for areas including the face, neck and décolletage, with the focus on supporting overall skin quality, elasticity and firmness.
Plinest® Eye is specifically formulated for the delicate skin around the eyes. It may be considered for selected periocular concerns, with treatment delivered using a needle or cannula depending on the area, anatomy and individual treatment plan.
Newest® combines polynucleotides with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, allowing us to consider regenerative skin support alongside hydration.
The choice of product is not simply about choosing the “strongest” option. It depends on your skin, the area being treated and what we are trying to achieve.
Do you need a polynucleotide course?
Not necessarily.
At Blackabey’s, we don’t automatically recommend the same “poly course” for everyone. Polynucleotides are often incorporated into a bespoke skin treatment plan alongside other treatments.
Depending on your skin and goals, your plan may include medical facials, chemical peels, microneedling, LED facials or other skin rejuvenation treatments.

What is the downtime?
As polynucleotides are injectable treatments, temporary reactions can occur. These may include small raised injection points, redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising.
These reactions are generally temporary, although individual experiences vary. The eye area can sometimes appear more swollen following treatment because the skin is particularly delicate.
Your practitioner will discuss expected downtime and aftercare with you before treatment.
When will you see results?
Polynucleotides are not designed to provide an instant transformation.
The aim is gradual improvement in skin quality as the treatment supports the skin’s regenerative processes. Results and timelines vary between individuals depending on the area treated, product selected and any other treatments included within your plan.
