Antiwrinkle treatments

Antiwrinkle Treatments

There are many ways to target fine lines and wrinkles. These often depend if they are static (face is expressionless) or dynamic (on facial movement e.g. frowning.

Depending on the type and cause of the wrinkles, dr Victoria will discuss with you a range of different treatments. Quite often, a range of different treatments are used together in a bespoke treatment plan in order to achieve the best results.

For static lines treatments often include excellent medical grade skincare, Alumier MD Chemical peels/ resurfacing treatments and microneedling with mesotherapy. If the static lines have deepened a small amount of dermal filler may also be used to enhance the results achieved.

For dynamic lines the treatment is often the use of Botulinum Toxin A (commonly known as Botox). This is a prescribed medication by Dr Victoria and will only be used following a full consultation with Dr Victoria.

To read more about how Botox works you can read our blog by clicking here. A summary on botulinum toxin use is available below. However please note this is a summary and results vary person to person. Dr Victoria will go further into this and the risks and benefits as part of your suitability assessment at your face-to-face consultation.

At a Glance: Botulinum Toxin

  • Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) is a drug which targets the nerve endings that cause muscles to contract (causing wrinkles). Botox works by stopping the nerves telling the muscles to contract and thereby reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on dynamic movement. You can read more about how it works on our blog by clicking here.

  • The drug is injected into the skin commonly in three areas: the forhead, the frown line and around the eyes to target Crow’s feet/Laughter lines. However in the hands of a professional such as Dr Victoria, the drug can also be used to address other areas of concern. Dr Victoria will consider this when addressing your skin concerns at your face-to-face consultation.

  • On average after treatments, it can take up to 2 weeks for the drug to take effect and for you to see the changes to your appearance. The Botox lasts on average 3-4 months however this differs person to person.

  • Following your face-to-face appointment you will be given a 2 week cooling off period between your appointment and consultation. This gives you time to consider your options and of course change your mind.

The treatment itself lasts around 45 minutes however we book an hour for the treatment in order to check how you are on the day and answer any questions you may have.

  • The risks will be discussed in full at your consultation. They include but are not limited to:

    Pain

    Bleeding

    Injection

    Asymmetry

    Brow/lid drop

  • Dr Victoria will discuss this with you both at the face-to-face consultation and you will also be provided with aftercare forms after the procedure.

After the procedure you will notice small bumps where the Botox has been injected. These settle after around 30-45 minutes.

    We advice for 24 hours

No ibuprofen/aspirin unless advised to do so by Dr Victoria

    No alcohol

No saunas/ steam rooms/ strenuous exercise

We also advise not to touch the face following treatment as this can introduce infection. We also advice a gentle cleanser the night following your treatment with normal routine to start the following day unless Dr Victoria comments otherwise at your treatment.

You will also be provided with emergency information after the procedure in case of an emergency.

Please note: treatments with Botulinum toxin and dermal filler are not suitable with a special event due to downtime so please take this into account. We also advise no travel and no other treatments for 2 weeks after treatment with Botulinum toxin.
